About Ordpar
Ordpar is a Norwegian–English dictionary. It has every article of Bokmålsordboka, the Bokmål dictionary of the University of Bergen and the Language Council of Norway, with an English translation where one has been written so far. An article without one is shown in Norwegian.
Where the dictionary comes from
The Norwegian articles are from Bokmålsordboka, © Språkrådet (the Language Council of Norway) and the University of Bergen, published at ordbokene.no under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC BY 4.0). The inflection tables are built from the articles' inflection data, from Norsk ordbank, under the same licence.
What Ordpar has changed
Ordpar adds the English translations, the English summaries and notes, and the page design, and lays out the Norwegian articles for this site, with light, mechanical changes to their format, and corrects some clear errors in them: spelling and typography, and cross-references that point to the wrong sense or homograph. Every page credits Bokmålsordboka and links to ordbokene.no, where the original articles are.
The English translations, notes and design are Ordpar's own work, published under the same licence (CC BY 4.0).
Search
Word frequencies for search suggestions: N-grams from the National Library of Norway 2026, Språkbanken, National Library of Norway (CC0). The site ships only a coarse frequency band per headword, never the list.
Not affiliated
Ordpar is an independent project. It is not affiliated with the University of Bergen or the Language Council of Norway, and neither has reviewed or endorsed the English.
No warranty
The dictionary is offered as it is, without warranties of any kind; see the licence's disclaimer of warranties (section 5).
